Who are You?

If you were to describe yourself to me, what words would you use? What is the first thing that comes to mind? How you see yourself is very important, for one reason: it is how we value ourselves. Who we are, what we do, and even who we belong to affect how we see the value of our lives.

Throughout my life, I have used words like 'daughter,' 'sister,' 'wife,' and 'mother' to describe who I was at that given moment. Even though I began my life as a child of God at the age of 5, it was not until later in my years that I began to see the value of just being God’s child. Being God’s child is the only part of life that will never change. Spouses die or move on. Children grow up and move on. Daughter and sister still change with the time of life I am in. Every role you will ever have in life will change with time. What happens if you place your value in those changing roles? Your value changes, sometimes to be nothing it was before.

Only as God’s child will you ever see yourself as you, not based upon others in and out of your life. It is during these changes of value that satan attacks the strongest. Throwing lies like, No one will care if you are gone, no one cares about you at all. Every role we play can always be done better. Hindsight is always better than foresight. We can always point to a time in our lives when we could have done better. But could we? We look back with mature eyes, seeing what was invisible to us at that moment. No, we cannot place our value in these fleeting things or roles we have. The only unchangeable thing in our lives is being God’s Child. That, dear one, will never change. What is your value as a child of God?

God paid a high price to get you back. The price of His only Son; Jesus, paid the highest price, that being His own life. So, the next time someone wants to devalue you, or you hear the lies of satan telling you no one cares, remember Who you are, A child of God, a child of the King.  Look at yourself in the mirror and declare who you are.

Psalm 139:13-16 ESV, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

1 Peter 2:9 ESV “I am a chosen person, a royal priesthood.”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV, “I am the temple of God’s Spirit.”

John 15:15 ESV, “I am a child of God.”

1 John 4:4 ESV, “I am from God and have overcome them, for He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.”

Romans 8:37 ESV, “I am more than a conqueror through Him who loved us.”

Galatians 2:20 ESV, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV, “I am an ambassador for Christ.”

Genesis 1:27 ESV, “I am made in the image of God.”

Philippians 4:13 ESV, “I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me.”

Galatians 3:13 ESV, “I am redeemed from the curse.”

Matthew 5:13-16 ESV, “I am the light of the world, the salt of the earth."

Beloved, there are so many scriptures that describe who you are in Christ. You may not see yourself as such, but Father God, who sees past, present, and future all at one glance, can see who you were before meeting Him, who you are now, and who you will be. I’m reminded of the children’s song, “He’s still working on me, to make me what I ought to be…”

All the things God’s word says you are, my dear one, that’s true value. So I ask again, who are you? You are a work in progress.
